Questions about pricing
- What counts as “billed through UsageRail”?
- Money your customers pay on prices UsageRail created or reports usage for, in live mode: subscription and usage lines on their invoices, plus credit packs. Other products on the same Stripe invoice don't count, and neither does test mode. We convert other currencies to US dollars at the European Central Bank rate for the payment date.
- What happens if a free account bills more than $1,000?
- Go over in one month and we email you. Go over two months in a row and you have 14 days to upgrade. If you don't, your live apps keep serving and billing your existing customers, but they can't add new customers, keys or subscriptions until you upgrade or a later month comes in at $1,000 or less. We never switch off billing for customers you already have.
- What if I go over my metered requests or end customers on a paid plan?
- Nothing is cut off. We email you, and if it happens two months in a row we suggest the next plan up.
- What's an HTTP check?
- If your API isn't written in Node.js or Python, your server calls our HTTP check endpoint at the start of each request instead of running the SDK. Each check is a request to our servers, so checks have their own allowance. On monthly plans, checks beyond the allowance cost $5 per million. On the free plan and on yearly plans, checks stop at the allowance until the next period. Requests counted by the SDK never use HTTP checks.
- Do you take a cut of my revenue?
- No. Your customers pay into your own Stripe account and we charge the flat monthly price. Stripe's card processing and Stripe Billing fees are separate and go to Stripe. The Stripe fee calculator shows what those come to. Open the Stripe fee calculator.
- Is there a free trial?
- No trial, because the free plan already lets you take real payments. If a paid plan isn't working for you in the first month, we refund it in full.
Comparing options? We put the other usage-billing tools side by side, with their prices, in the billing software comparison.
