Terms of use
Last updated October 25, 2026
These terms cover UsageRail: the website at usagerail.com, the console at app.usagerail.com, the customer portals we host for you, our API and the SDKs. UsageRail operates the service. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.
Your account
You sign in with your email address, so keep access to that inbox. It's also how we reach you. You're responsible for what happens in your account and for the API keys and admin keys you create there.
What you can use UsageRail for
Use it to sell and manage access to your own API. Don't use UsageRail, or a portal it hosts, for phishing, spam, malware, fraud or anything illegal where you or your customers are. Don't try to get into other people's accounts or data, and don't attack or load-test the service.
If a portal is used for phishing or abuse, we may take it offline straight away and suspend the account. We'll email you to say why.
Your customers
Who your customers are and what you sell them is up to you. Your own terms and privacy policy cover your relationship with them; your portal links to both. We store your customers' email addresses, their keys (as hashes), their plans and their usage on your behalf, and use that data only to run the service for you. The privacy policy has the details.
Payments
Payments from your customers go straight into your own Stripe account. We never hold the money and take no share of it. Stripe's own fees are between you and Stripe, and your prices, refunds and taxes are yours to manage.
Billing through Stripe isn't live yet. Until it is, your customers can only be on free plans.
Our plans
UsageRail is free until you bill $1,000 a month through it. Paid plans are listed on the pricing page. We don't take payment for them yet, and we'll email every account before we start.
No uptime promise
We work to keep UsageRail running, but we don't promise any particular uptime. When the SDK can't reach us, it keeps checking keys and limits against its last copy of your settings.
We may change or remove features. If a change takes away something you rely on, we'll tell you by email before it happens.
Closing your account
You can stop using UsageRail at any time. To have your account and its data deleted, email support@usagerail.com from the account's address. We may close accounts that break these terms.
The guides and tools
The guides explain how API pricing, metering, rate limiting and billing work. They aren't legal, tax or accounting advice.
The Stripe fee calculator uses the rates Stripe publishes, checked on the date shown on the page. Stripe can change its prices, and your account may have different rates, so treat the results as estimates and check your Stripe dashboard for what you actually pay. The API key generator and the pricing calculator run entirely in your browser.
Prices and features of other companies' products are described as we found them on the date shown. Product names belong to their owners; mentioning them doesn't mean they endorse us or we endorse them.
You may quote short parts of the guides with a link back.
No warranty, limited liability
The service, the site and the tools are provided as they are, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost profits or revenue, including losses from decisions made with calculator results. Our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update the date above. If a change affects your account, we'll email you before it takes effect.
